Ryan Longwell kicked a field goal with just 60 seconds on the clock to give Minnesota a 19-16 victory over the Washington Redskins.
Longwell's deciding score came after a drive of 54 yards and 11 plays.
The Redskins then had an opportunity to level the game but John Hall, who had earlier kicked three field goals, hooked a 48-yard attempt wide.
In the other Monday night game, LaDainian Tomlinson scored a touchdown as San Diego beat Oakland 27-0.
Tomlinson rushed for 131 yards, two yards more than the entire Raiders offence, while Antonio Gates and Michael Turner also crossed in the final quarter.
It was the first time since 1981 Oakland have suffered a shut-out at home.
Minnesota's win gave new head coach Brad Childress a perfect start to his tenure.
Quarterback Brad Johnson, the oldest offensive player in the NFL, threw for a touchdown and 223 yards while Chester Taylor and Marcus Robinson also scored.
The only Redskins touchdown came from a five-yard run from Clinton Portis in the second quarter.
