The Rolling Stones will provide the half-time entertainment during Super Bowl XL in Detroit on 5 February.

America's biggest sporting event is famous for staging spectacular shows involving some of the biggest names in entertainment during the interval.

Last year's Super Bowl was seen by 133m TV viewers in the US, and an estimated global audience of around one billion.

Sir Paul McCartney topped the bill at the 2005 Super Bowl in Jacksonville as New England beat Philadelphia 24-21.

The Rolling Stones will be on the American leg of their "A Bigger Bang" world tour when they play at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions.
