Fight or farce?
Henry Akinwande and Lennox Lewis tangle
Henry Akinwande (l) holds on to Lennox Lewis
After Mike Tyson's latest fight finished in a farce, BBC Sport Online's Steve Cresswell profiles some of the most bizarre finishes.

23 October 1999: Mike Tyson v Orlin Norris

Mike Tyson returns to the ring after nine months but by the end of the first round the bout is ruled a no-contest.

A late first round hook to the head, somewhat bizarrely leaves Norris with a twisted ankle and unable to continue.

25 September 1999: Oliver McCall v Samson Cohen

Not for the first time an Oliver McCall fight ended in farce. His first fight in 18 months lasted less than two rounds.

However, this bout with Cohen had almost as strange an outcome.

Cohen fell through the ropes, banged his shoulder on a ringside table and was then unable to continue, rendering the fight a no-contest.

12 July 1997: Lennox Lewis v Henry Akinwande

The Battle of the Brits sees Akinwande disqualified in the fifth for continual holding.

Heavyweight battles are never short of their clinches at close quarters, but Akinwande appeared far more interested in cuddling Lewis than fighting him.

Another bout that provided scant entertainment for the paying public.

28 June 1997: Mike Tyson v Evander Holyfield

This was the re-match after Holyfield's victory the previous November, and as Holyfield began to get on top, Tyson resorted to taking a bite out of his opponents ear.

Naturally a warning followed but that didn't satisfy Tyson's appetite for destruction and after going back for seconds referee Mills Lane disqualified him.

7 February 1997: Lennox Lewis v Oliver McCall

Referee Mills Lane calls time in the fifth round as McCall appears totally distraught.

A sobbing McCall is clearly no match for Lewis as yet another heavyweight clash ends in farce.

Seemingly unable to throw any punches of his own, McCall's existence in the ring was purely self preservation.

14 December 1996: Riddick Bowe v Andrew Golota

The second meeting between the pair and the second disqualification for Golota, though this fight lasted two rounds longer than their previous bout before ending in the ninth.

Having already been deducted a point for a headbutt, the Pole dishes out three low shots which send Bowe to the canvass but see Golota once again disqualified.

And so a repeat performance. Coincidence or more heavyweight farce?
