Huard homeward bound

The future of recent London Knights signing, Bill Huard, is in doubt after he was forced to return to Canada with his pregnant girlfriend.

Huard isn't expected to return to Britain until December at the earliest.

The physical left winger, who played more than 220 games in the NHL, has iced twice for the Knights since he joined the roster three weeks ago.

He quickly proved to be an asset to the team, scoring the opening goal against the Nottingham Panthers on 8 October and making one assist in London's B&H Cup quarter-final tie four days later.

I think they're going to go home, have the baby and Bill might consider coming back after the baby's born

But speaking after London's 6-2 victory against the Newcastle Jesters on Sunday night, head coach Chris McSorley revealed the reason for Huard's absence from the game.

"His girlfriend's seven months pregnant and she got kind of a bad scare this week," he said.

"She had a really good doctor back home. I think they're going to go home, have the baby and Bill might consider coming back after the baby's born."

McSorley was sanguine about the unexpected turn of events.

"Everyone knows how hard I worked to get Bill here," he said, "but he said to me that if anything happened to the baby it'd be a long life for him."

"Bill's going to be very missed but at the same time he's welcome to come back."
