Leopards edge past Newcastle

On the ball: Kimbrough top scored for Leopards
London Leopards held on for their second win of the Budweiser Basketball League season with a 89-85 success over Newcastle Eagles.

Jason Kimbrough top scored with 20 points for Leopards, who led throughout the final three quarters but nearly let the Eagles back in at the death after some poor free throw shooting.

Chester Jets took a share of the lead of the Northern Conference with a comfortable 107-88 success over the Leicester Riders.

Riders' Purnell Perry was the game's leading scorer with 40 points.

In the NTL National Cup ,Thames Valley Tigers provided the upset of the round, defeating holders Westfield Sharks Sheffield 112-100.

Elsewhere in the cup, Justin Phoenix scored 28 points on his debut as Manchester Giants overcame the Brighton Bears 74-72.

London Towers squeezed past Milton Keynes Lions 83-81 and Derby Storm defeated Edinburgh Rocks 86-59.
