Olympic champions Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent have returned to rowing in style by winning the men's pairs in the Supersprint series at Eton.

The most famous members of Britain's all-conquering coxless four, which won gold at the Sydney Olympics, also anchored the British relay team to victory.

Redgrave, racing in what was probably his last international event, said the win was "very enjoyable indeed".

"Maybe one or two more races and I'll be at my best," joked the five-time gold medallist.

Cracknell fourth

Redgrave and Pinsent were the only British success in the singles events.

Team-mate James Cracknell switched to sculls for the meeting and did well to qualify for the final, eventually coming third with fellow Briton Andrew Lindsay fourth.

Two other Olympic medallists, Miriam Batten and Gillian Lindsay, came third in the women's doubles sculls.

The duo were part of the quartet who won silver in the quadruple sculls in Sydney.

This time around, the Russians, who took bronze in Sydney, won with the Netherlands in second.

The event was rounded off with a relay involving the men's single sculls, the women's doubles sculls and the men's pairs.

Redgrave and Pinsent brought Great Britain home to victory ahead of the Russian team.
