Tyson 'unlikely' to return to UK
Mike Tyson
Tyson was unapologetic after the Savarese fiasco
Despite paying a £125,000 fine to the British Boxing Board of Control on Wednesday, Mike Tyson may never be allowed to box in Britain again.

Tyson, who also paid £1,000 in costs, was fined for refusing to stop punching after referee John Coyle stepped in to halt the controversial fight with Lou Savarese in Glasgow in June.

Following a BBBC disciplinary meeting in August, Tyson faced the threat of having his licence to box in Britain revoked if he failed to pay up.

But despite Tyson paying his fine, BBBC general secretary Simon Block said Tyson would have to appear before the board to clear any future fight in Britain.

I don't anticipate Mike Tyson making an application in the foreseeable future

Tyson did not attend the August disciplinary meeting where he was also reprimanded for an obscene post-fight comment about Lennox Lewis.

The Board's stewards have now made Tyson an exceptional case by their insistence that any future request to box in Brtain is made in person before them.

Unusual

"It is very unusual for an overseas boxer to have to appear personally," Block said on Wednesday.

"But that was the decision of the Board stewards, who felt that in this particular case they would need to see him in person if they were to consider granting him a permit."

Although Tyson's payment theoretically means he is able to pursue another fight in Britain, Block admitted a return was "highly unlikely".

"There is nothing statutory preventing him from coming back here, however, I suspect that is academic.

"I don't anticipate Mike Tyson making an application in the foreseeable future."
