Swansea's Gwen Spurlock won the women's individual title

Jersey surfer Esther Lempriere has won bronze at the British Universities and Colleges Surfing Championships at Fistral Beach in Newquay.

The Exeter University student finished behind Holly Donnelly from Plymouth, and Swansea's Gwen Spurlock, who took the overall title.

Lempriere's result helped Exeter take first place in the women's team event.

The men's individual event was won by Bournemouth's Gordon Fontaine, while Falmouth took the team event.

Falmouth's Billy Norways came second in the men's individual, with Cardiff's Rob Webster-Blythe taking bronze.

Organiser Ed Curran said: "The 2010 Championships were outstanding once again, with some inspirational displays of skill from the finalists, and all surfers who took part thoroughly enjoying the event.

"We intend to grow the event further in 2011, as it is a truly special weekend of university sport."
