Duran's daughter loses first fight
Roberto Duran
Duran fights again soon - his daughter lost her debut
The daughter of Panamanian boxing legend Roberto Duran has joined those of Muhammed Ali and Joe Frazier by pulling on the gloves.

In her pro debut, super bantamweight Irichelle Duran suffered a split decision loss to Geraldine Iglesias in Las Vegas.

Her 49-year-old father is scheduled to return to the ring in a fight with PJ Goosen in Yakima, Washington State, on 12 August.

Iglesias of Cleveland was the busier fighter, a tactic that allowed her to score 39-37, 39-37, and 37-39 on the judges' score cards. It was her first victory, having lost her own debut bout.

Although the 118lb Duran, who is based in Australian, showed more punching power, particularly with her straight right, she looked lethargic.

At the top of the WBU-sanctioned bill at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, heavyweight Hasim Rahman won by a TKO over Frankie Swindell.

The one-sided contested ended when 246lb Swindell, of Nashville, failed to come out for the eighth round.

The 238lb Rahman was outpointing his opponent, leading by seven points, seven points and five points on the three judges' score cards.

Rahman, of Baltimore, improved to 34-2 with 28 knockouts, while Swindell fell to 37-20-3.
