Neary edges to points verdict
Shean Neary

Shea Neary struggled in his comeback fight at London's Elephant and Castle before edging past Bristol's Alan Bosworth on points.

Liverpool's Neary, who lost his unbeaten record and his WBU Lightwelterweight crown to Mickey Ward in March, was expected to have little trouble in winning his 10-round bout.

But Neary, who had struggled to make the weight, looked as though he was struggling to motivate himself in modest surroundings and it was only when the game Bosworth tired that Neary secured the referee's verdict.

"I found it hard to get up for this fight, but you have got to give all the credit to Alan Bosworth," Neary said.

Battersea's Howard Eastman successfully defended his WBA Inter-Continental middleweight title as Russian challenger Ahmed Dottouev was retired at the end of the fourth round.

Former British champion Eastman is being forced to battle it out with lower-class opposition as he waits for a world title shot and a cut eye forced Eastman's premature retirement.

"It's frustrating, but if it had carried on I would have knocked him out," said Eastman.

"I'm still ready to take on anyone."

WBU lightweight champion Colin Dunne also forced a retirement from Ukrainian Rakhim Migaleev in the fifth round of a scheduled eight-round bout, while Johnny Armour overcame Russian Alexandre Titanov in a fiercely-fought eight-rounder.
