Jorgen Petterson expects close race to host 2015 event

Island Games Association boss Jorgen Petterson says the decision between Jersey and Gotland to host the 2015 event is a very difficult one to make.

Petterson has been to both islands to check that the two bids contain accurate information.

"I don't envy the islands who have to make the decision because it is a hard one," said Petterson.

The 25 islands will meet in the Isle of Wight on the weekend of 26 and 27 June to decide who will hold the 2015 Games.

Both islands have hosted the bi-annual event once before - Jersey in 1997 and Gotland two years later.

Petterson is particularly pleased in the way that the previous games in Jersey provided a legacy for the future.

"When we see that Springfield Stadium is as good as it is today, it does make you feel proud. It is why we do this."

"And when you see photos of smiling athletes from 1997 at the same venues today, that is also a big reward."
