O'Neill sorry for De Bruijn remarks
![]() O'Neill: Sceptical about De Bruijn's achievements
Olympic and world champion Susie O'Neill has apologised to Inge de Bruijn for casting doubt over the Dutch swimmer's recent seven world records.
O'Neill, the 200-metre butterfly specialist, stated that De Bruijn's achievements seemed "pretty suss". But O'Neill e-mailed the Dutchwoman to apologise for her comments, which many interpreted as a drug slur. The Australian swimmer has also asked for De Bruijn's telephone number so that she could apologise to her in person. "I was kind of surprised when I heard her comments because she has always been shy to me, but always nice, I didn't expect it," said de Bruijn. Awesome "I didn't know if it really came out of her mouth or if it had just blown up in the media, it wasn't like her to say such a thing. "The fact she e-mailed and wanted to continue our friendship was great. "Susie is an awesome athlete. I have no enemies. If I am on the blocks, I want to win, but outside of the pool I want to be the nice person that I am." |
