Buckland and Coomes hope to go to the Winter Olympics

Two ice skaters from Nottingham look set to follow Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean and represent Great Britain at the Winter Olympics. Nick Buckland and Penny Coomes have already achieved an Olympic-qualifying score and now need to finish in the top two of the British Championships. If successful at the championships in Sheffield, the pair will travel to the United States for a training camp. Torvill and Dean won gold for Great Britain at the Winter Olympics in 1984. Buckland and Coomes put on a skating display in the first interval of Nottingham Panthers' ice hockey match against Cardiff on Sunday. The National Ice Centre's sports development officer Matt Bradbury said: "We are extremely proud of Nick and Penny achievements so far this year. "They have now got to take it to the next level when it counts and I am sure everyone in Nottingham will be rooting for them."
