Guernsey hope to take a large crowd with them for the final

Guernsey's men's hockey team have made it through to their first ever National Trophy Final after beating University of the West of England, Bristol, 3-1.

UWE took the lead with a short corner before Guernsey got into the game, leading 2-1 by half-time.

Continuous pressure from the Sarnians in the second half led to a third goal.

Player-coach Ben Allberry told BBC Guernsey: "We kept the ball, we played the ball and we played the hockey we know we can."

Allberry, who had missed his first penalty stroke of the season at 1-0 down, said: "The pressure in the second half was phenomenal. We really worked hard and got the third goal and killed the game."

The win followed a defeat at home to Jersey, who went out in the cup quarter-finals, in the annual Inter-insular clash.

Guernsey will play Henley in the final after they beat Didsbury Northern 3-0 in the other semi-final.

Allberry said: "We'll approach the game the same as we do every time - we'll train hard and get as much pitch time as we can between now and then, and really prepare ourselves for what will be the biggest game in a lot of players' careers.

"It's a one-off game - anything can happen but we're confident that we can go out there put in a good performance and hopefully take a large travelling support with us and do them proud."
