Shinty body board members resign

The Camanachd Cup Final is shinty's showpiece event

Three directors of the Camanachd Association have resigned over concerns about the way shinty is being governed.

Stuart Ferrier and Alexander Menzies have followed Donnie Mackenzie in leaving the organisation.

"Their contributions to the work of the board were significant," said president Duncan Cameron.

"It is disappointing that Alexander and Stuart cannot support the decisions made by the majority of their fellow board members."

Ferrier held the post of director of coaching while Menzies was the finance director.

"I believe we all have the best interests of shinty at heart but I do not agree with the approach of our chair and therefore have taken the decision to resign," said Ferrier.

"I have enjoyed contributing to shinty over the past five years and will continue to advocate the many benefits shinty can make to our communities."

Menzies added: "For the most part, I have enjoyed my two years supporting the development of shinty, but I do not agree with, and cannot support, the direction the current leadership are taking the sport in.

"I wish everyone involved in shinty every success for the future."

Mackenzie last week quit his post as association director citing what he called "unacceptable" behaviour by the association's leadership and saying the speed at which the governance of the game is collapsing was meteoric.

The association have begun a process for electing new board members.
