Games legend loses cancer battle

Bob Blake
Blake won nearly 20 gold medals at seven Island Games

Jersey's most decorated Island Games competitor, shooter Bob Blake, has lost his fight with cancer at the age of 65.

Pistol shooter Blake won more than 50 medals for Jersey at the past seven Island Games, winning almost 20 golds.

He was selected as the island's flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the 2007 games in Rhodes and held six Island Games records.

Last year he was given Jersey's prestigious Sid Guy award for outstanding contribution to sport.

Fellow shooter and games gold medallist Derek Bernard said Blake's death was a "tremendous loss" and that his friend had an incredible lifetime involvement in Jersey sport.

He said Mr Blake was extremely active as a racing driver before turning his attention to shooting twenty years ago.
