Lincolnshire swimmer Melanie Marshall, 26, has announced her retirement after 10 years of international competition.

She will take up a role as head coach at the City of Derby swimming club.

Marshall, from Wrangle, made her senior debut in the 1998 World championships and went on to win seven Commonwealth medals and swim at two Olympic Games.

She said: "After Beijing I came to a point where I realised I'd given everything to being a swimmer and I simply couldn't give any more."
