Atkinson storms to World Open win
Vanessa Atkinson
Atkinson has been in impressive form in Kuala Lumpur
Vanessa Atkinson took the women's World Open squash championship with an impressive win over Australia's Natalie Grinham in Kuala Lumpur.

After scoring a shock win over world number one Rachael Grinham in the semi-finals, Atkinson beat her younger sister 9-1 9-1 9-5 in the final.

The 28-year-old became the first Dutchwoman to win a world title and took advantage of her rival's fatigue.

Grinham had been taken the distance in her semi against Nicol David.

"I knew Natalie was very tired," said British-born Atkinson, the third seed.

"So I went in with a specific plan. I tried to keep her deep and play the rallies long, and it [Grinham's tiredness] was showing already in the first game."
