Bears face fine for Euro pull-out
Nick Nurse
Nurse had hoped to coach his side in Europe again
The Brighton Bears could face a hefty fine after their withdrawal from a European basketball league.

The Bears were forced to pull out of the Fiba Europe League earlier this week after a major sponsor backed out.

And the European governing body could now punish the Bears for their late decision.

"Without the sponsor I didn't want to take that financial risk. The club must remain financially secure," insisted Bears owner and coach Nick Nurse.

The Bears, who were also involved in European action last season, were due to face teams from France, Israel, Belgium, Russia, Turkey, Poland and the Netherlands in their group.

It is feared their withdrawal could harm their chances of entering the competition next season, should they qualify.
