Ireland's Margaret Johnston won the Women's World Bowls title for a record third time at Royal Leamington Spa on Friday.

The Bellaghy-born Johnston comfortably defeated South Africa's Lorna Trigwell 21-9 in a one-sided decider.

Johnston went through the competition unbeaten and now matches her three World pairs titles.

Johnston, who plays for the Ballymoney club in Co Antrim, was never really threatened in the final.

The nearest Trigwell got was in the 15th end when she narrowed the gap to 12-7.

However, Johnston scored a three and then two doubles in succession to go 19-7 ahead and end Trigwell's fightback.
