The US men's basketball team advanced to the medals round at the Pan American Games with a thrilling 74-72 victory over Uruguay.
Rickey Paulding of Missouri hit two free throws in the final 33.6 seconds and Seton Hall's Andre Barrett tied up a Uruguayan player with 9.1 seconds left, forcing a key turnover.
The United States did not lead until early in the fourth quarter.
In other games, the US beat Argentina 80-79 and lost to Puerto Rico 86-85.
The Puerto Ricans won the group and also advanced, as did Brazil and the Dominican Republic in the other sector.
Jamie Carey of Texas scored 20 points and made all six of her
three-pointers to lead the US women to a 77-64 upset of Brazil.
