Great Britain emerged from the World Championships in Hungary empty-handed after losing their final game against Norway 2-1.

The two sides racked up 42 penalty minutes between them in the first period but the scoreline remained blank after 20 minutes.

Dundee's Paul Berrington broke the deadlock with his first goal for the national side on the power-play in the 26th minute.

But Norway, relegated from the top flight last year, responded with goals from Kjell Nygard (short-handed) and Geir Svendsberget.

British defenceman Scott Campbell was thrown out of the game 17 seconds from time for spearing.

Great Britain were heavily out-shot, with 21 attempts to Norway's 38.

The game brought a disappointing World Championship campaign for Britain to an end for another year and handed the bronze medal to Norway.

Chris McSorley's side had hoped to progress to the highest level of international ice hockey after eight years in the lower echelons.

But defeats in their first two games against Denmark and Hungary dashed their promotion hopes.
