Mixed fortunes for British
Revier Lowen Oberhausen were too strong for Sheffield
Revier Lowen Oberhausen claimed their second win
By BBC Sport Online's Stuart Hughes

Britain claimed its first win in the Ryder Cup-style Ahearne Trophy tournament on Wednesday.

Superleague champions Belfast Giants scored in overtime to beat Hanover Scorpions 4-3.

The German visitors went ahead at 2:14 through Swedish forward Mattias Loof.

Giants, beaten 4-3 in overtime by Oberhausen on Tuesday, came storming back early in the second period.

Dave Matsos equalised 59 second into the session. Two minutes later Jason Bowen sent a cross-ice pass to Kevin Riehl, who tipped the puck past Hannover goalie Andrew Verner.

Goals from Wallace Schreiber and Egor Bashkatov put Scorpions back in control but with less than five minutes left Sean Berens scored on a breakaway to send the game into overtime.

Belfast skipper Jeff Hoad netted the game winner 34 seconds before the end of the extra session.

Revier Lowen Oberhausen won their second game of the tournament, beating Sheffield Steelers 5-3.

Lasse Kopitz and Josef Zajic scored 15 seconds apart to leave Mike Blaisdell's team trailing by two goals inside four minutes.

Steelers forced Oberhausen back on the defensive and at 11:36 Brad Lauer fired the puck over a sprawling Tim Schnelle.

Sheffield went ahead midway through the game thanks to goals from Paul Kruse and Chris Lipsett.

But Mika Arvaja tied up the affair by the end of the second intermission before Richard Kazda and Robert Hock sealed Germany's first win of the tournament in regulation play.
