Webley takes Welsh title
Cardiff's Jeff Webley won the 2001 Welsh Indoor Bowls title after a marathon final against Nigel Williams at Llanelli's Selwyn Samuel Centre.

Webley outlasted Swansea-based Williams 9-4, 8-9, 2-1 in a match which lasted almost two hours.

And the winner was understandably delighted with his victory.

"It is the only title in Wales to have eluded me, and I am delighted to have won," he said.

"Nigel played well and put me under pressure, but I just got through in the tie-break."

Earlier, Webley defeated Ian Slade, of Islwyn, in the semi-finals, while Williams overcame the tournament favourite, Prestigne's Robert Weale.

As well as the indoor crown, Webley earned an invite to the Welsh Masters event that starts in Llanelli on Tuesday.

In the first round he will play fellow Welshman John Price, while Weale - whose place was secured by his world ranking - takes on Scotland's Masters champion Julie Forrest.

2002 HJ Hall Welsh Masters: John Price v Jeff Webley, Hugh Duff v Darren Burnett, Jonathan Ross v Greg Harlow, Les Gillett v Tony Allcock, Robert Weale v Julie Forrest, Jason Greenslade v Andy Thomson, Stephen Rees v Ian Bond, Paul Foster v Mike Prosser.
