Hills victorious in Canada
Mutamam in winning form
Mutamam has been a model of consistency
Jockey Richard Hills completed a remarkable personal weekend with victory on Mutamam in the Canadian International at Woodbine.

The 4-1 shot bravely repelled a strong late challenge from German raider Paolini as the pair produced a European one-two in a dramatic race at the Toronto track.

British challengers Zindabad and Daliapour crossed the line in third and fourth, but were disqualified following a barrage of stewards enquiries.

The Mark Johnston-trained Zindabad was ejected for causing interference in the final furlong under champion jockey Kevin Darley.

Johnny Murtagh saw his mount Daliapour thrown out after causing problems for favourite Strut The Stage early in the mile-and-a-half event.

But the day belonged to Mutamam and his jockey Richard Hills.

He landed this latest leg of the Emirates World Series just a day after victory in Ascot's Group One Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

At Ascot, Hills stole a march on favourite Noverre to spring a 33-1 shock with Summoner.

Objection

In Canada, he had to survive an objection after Paolini's trainer Andreas Woehler claimed Hills had struck his charge with his whip in the shadow of the post.

It took officials about 10 minutes to decide that Mutamam should keep the race, a decision that delighted Hills.

The relieved jockey said: "I didn't feel anything.

"My horse was running straight and I never felt anything - and I certainly didn't strike him with my whip as they claimed."

Mutamam took up the running from early leader Dawson's Legacy as the runners came off the final bend before withholding Paolini's challenge to the line.

Hills said: "He is a good honest horse.

"He stuck his head out throughout the straight and I'm very proud to have ridden him."
