Michael Jordan made a brief "return" to the NBA when his name accidently appeared on the Washington Wizards' online roster.

Jordan's name was listed on the active list on the NBA.com website for about 90 minutes before the error was corrected.

Speculation has been rife that the 38-year-old NBA legend is about to make a comeback.

He is currently the Wizards' president of basketball operations.

Jordan, a six-times NBA title winner with the Chicago Bulls, has been training for months to get himself in shape to see if he is ready to return.

One week ago, he hinted to reporters he was on the verge of doing so, only to later deny he made such comments.

Following the terrorist attacks on America, Jordan scrapped a planned news conference.

When Jordan ended his 17-month retirement in 1995 after an ill-fated bid to play baseball, his return was confirmed by a two-word statement - "I'm back."

The Wizards' open training camp with a media day on 1 October before before 10 days of training at Jordan's hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina.

If he does choose to join Washington as a player, he must divest himself of ownership shares in the NBA franchise.

Reports have claimed he will do so by trading shares that will give him a larger stake in the Washington Capitals ice hockey club.
