Milan has Arc chance
Milan
Mick Kinane was always confident on Milan
Milan will be aimed at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after his impressive success in the Rothmans Royal St Leger at Doncaster.

The 13-8 favourite streaked clear of the field under Mick Kinane to give the Irish jockey victory at his first attempt in the oldest classic of them all.

Milan finished five lengths clear of Demophilos with Mr Combustible third, and Kinane was never in any doubt he would win despite being boxed in with two furlongs to go.

The plan is to go for the Arc and he will probably be our only runner
Aidan O'Brien

"I wasn't worried. I was confident because he is a very good colt," said Kinane.

"I had plenty of horse under me and it was a matter of biding my time."

Winning trainer Aidan O'Brien has now sent out 15 Group One winners this season and looks certain to become the first overseas trainer to land the British championship since 1977.

The £222,000 first prize extended his lead at the top of the trainers' table to around £550,000 over Sir Michael Stoute.

Incredible season

However O'Brien admitted he did not share Kinane's confidence when Milan was stuck in traffic.

"Two furlongs out I thought he would have to jump to get out!" he said.

"Milan travelled like a dream and when he had all the horses around him Michael didn't panic - he waited and waited and when he got out he flew."

I think he would acquit himself well in the Arc. I wouldn't swap him
Mick Kinane

Victory in the Arc, on 7 October, would cap an incredible season for the Ballydoyle team and Milan is now a best priced 10-1 with William Hill.

"The plan is to go for the Arc and he will probably be our only runner," O'Brien said.

"It will be his first time against older horses and it is two furlongs shorter but he has plenty of class."

Kinane added: "I think he would acquit himself well in the Arc. I wouldn't swap him."
