American League

Oakland set a season-high in runs and hits as they routed the Cleveland Indians 17-4.

Jermaine Dye and Terrence Long each drove in four runs and Dye, Miguel Tejada and Olmedo Saenz homered.

Rick Reed won his first start for Minnesota despite giving up 12 hits as the Twins stopped a five-game losing streak by beating the Toronto Blue Jays 9-4.

Reed, who joined earlier in the week from the New York Mets, allowed two runs on 11 singles and one homer in six innings.

Bobby Kielty hit his first major league home run for the Twins, who are 6-15 since the All-Star break.

Alex Rodriguez hit a three-run homer as the Texas Rangers beat the New York Yankees 12-2 to win their first series at Yankee Stadium in eight years.

Gabe Kapler also hit a three-run shot in the third and Frank Catalanotto and Ricky Ledee added solo homers.

Tanyon Sturtze pitched seven strong innings and Steve Cox drove in two runs as Tampa Bay beat Baltimore 3-2.

Sturtze (6-9) allowed two runs, six hits and five walks.

Rookie Victor Zambrano got three outs for his first major league save.

Rookie Joel Pineiro allowed one run in seven innings as the Seattle Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers 2-1.

The Mariners have not lost a series on the road this season.

Garret Anderson's second homer of the game began a six-run sixth inning as Anaheim beat Boston 13-4.

Raul Ibanez's bases-loaded double sparked a six-run third inning as Kansas City defeated Chicago 6-3.

The Royals overcame an umpire's overrule to score six runs in the third and drive out struggling White Sox starter Kip Wells (6-7).

National League

Kirk Rueter allowed one hit over seven innings as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-0 for their season-high eighth consecutive victory.

Marvin Benard homered and Jeff Kent drove in two runs for the Pirates.

Ryan Klesko hit a grand slam in the eighth inning and the San Diego Padres pipped the Chicago Cubs 4-3 for the second consecutive game.

The game turned after Cubs pitcher Jason Bere, who had had a three-hit shutout and 12 strikeouts through seven innings, was replaced by left-hander Jeff Fassero.

Fassero (4-3) allowed singles to D'Angelo Jimenez and pinch-hitter Alex Arias.

Orlando Cabrera hit a home run as Montreal beat Arizona 1-0.

Javier Vazquez (10-10) gave up three hits in eight innings. Scott Stewart worked a perfect ninth for his second save in as many games.

Pat Burrell homered in his third straight game as the Philadelphia Phillies over the Colorado Rockies 4-2.

Juan Uribe hit his first major league home run for the Rockies.

Mark Sweeney homered and Henry Blanco hit a two-run double as the Milwaukee Brewers ended a four-game losing streak to defeat the Florida Marlins 4-3.

Moises Alou's infield single brought home the winning run for the Houston Astros against New York.

Pinch-hitter Orlando Merced's two-run double off Mets closer Armando Benitez made it 3-3 in the ninth.

Alou's single off Jerrod Riggan (0-2) drove in Craig Biggio with two outs in the 10th. Mike Williams (3-4) pitched a perfect 10th to earn his first victory with the Astros.

Tom Glavine won his fifth straight decision and Javy Lopez hit a two-run opposite-field home run as Atlanta beat the St Louis Cardinals 2-1.

Lopez cleared the right-field wall down the line with his 11th homer off Bud Smith (3-1) after Andruw Jones singled to start the second.

Dmitri Young and Jason LaRue each homered twice and Ken Griffey Jnr homered for the second time in two games as Cincinnati beat the LA Dodgers 7-4.

Aaron Boone also homered for the Reds.
