Rangers edge out Orioles
![]() Rodriguez played a key role late on
Alex Rodriguez's two-run single with two outs in the 11th inning earned the Texas Rangers a 6-4 American League victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the only major league game on Monday.
Craig Monroe led off the 11th with a walk and was sacrificed to second base by Bill Haselman. Monroe moved up to third on Michael Young's groundout and Mike Trombley intentionally walked Frank Catalanotto to set up a possible double play. But Catalanotto stole second base and Rodriguez lined a 2-2 pitch into left field to score Monroe and Catalanotto for a 6-4 lead.
Jeff Zimmerman struck out two in a perfect 11th inning for his 20th save in 23 opportunities. Trombley (3-4), Baltimore's sixth pitcher, worked only one inning. Jeff Conine had three hits for the Orioles, who have lost 14 of their last 17 home games. The game was rescheduled from 19 July, when a trail derailment forced the postponement of two games.
