National League

Keith Lockhart produced a three-run homer as the Atlanta Braves posted a rain-shortened 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

The umpires waited 87 minutes before making it the first rain-shortened game at Cincinnati since a 3-3 contest with the Milwaukee Brewers was called off last April.

Atlanta have now moved one game in front of the Philadelphia Phillies for the lead in the National League East after posting consecutive wins.

Elsewhere, Chan Ho Park allowed only two singles in his second career shutout as the Los Angeles Dodgers blanked the Milwaukee Brewers 5-0.

Park allowed just a leadoff single to Mark Loretta in the third inning and a hit to Richie Sexson with one out in the fourth. After Sexson's single, Park retired the final 17 batters.

Vladimir Guerrero's solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Montreal Expos to a 7-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The New York Mets rallied for their fifth straight victory in a four-hour marathon with the Florida Marlins. The Mets 4-3 win took their record to 6-1 since the break.

Eric Young of the Chicago Cubs snapped a ninth-inning tie with an RBI double to help his side rally for a 6-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The game between the San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks was suspended due to a power outage at Qualcomm Stadium.

Two transformers which supply power to the lights at the top of the stadium blew up in the top of the third inning with Arizona leading 1-0.

American League

Roger Clemens claimed his 273rd career win to tie Hall of Famer Red Ruffing for 27th place in the all-time list as the New York Yankees shared an American League doubleheader with the Detroit Tigers.

In the Yankees' 8-5 victory in Game One, Clemens struck out three batters, moving within five of tying another Hall of Famer and former team-mate Tom Seaver for fourth place on the all-time list.

In Game Two, Roger Cedeno collected four hits, including a pair of home runs, and a career-high six RBI as the Tigers earned a split of the double-header with a 12-4 victory.

The Baltimore Orioles' Rick Helling survived seven rocky innings and Frank Catalanotto went 4-for-4 as the Texas Rangers claimed a 6-4 win.

Despite allowing four runs and nine hits, Helling was able to post his sixth win in eight decisions.

Game Two of the scheduled double-header was postponed after a train derailment near the stadium forced the evacuation of the ballpark.

Officials said the train was carrying hazardous materials, including hydrochloric acid, when it came off the tracks in the tunnel that runs near Camden Yards.

Bret Boone and David Bell delivered two-out RBI singles in the top of the 10th inning to give the Seattle Mariners a 2-0 win over the Kansas City Royals.

Tim Hudson pitched seven scoreless innings to remain unbeaten in domed stadiums as the Oakland Athletics defeated the Minnesota Twins 7-2.

Ismael Valdes combined with three relievers on a four-hitter and David Eckstein had four hits as the Anaheim Angels posted a 2-1 triumph over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

The Boston Red Sox rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays, with Trot Nixon grabbing a pair of run-scoring hits.

Roberto Alomar and Jim Thome homered and rookie C.C. Sabathia worked 5 2/3 innings as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Chicago White Sox 9-4.
