Gotti target of police raid
Ivan Gotti in action
Gotti is in sixth place overall in the Giro d'Italia
Italian police have seized medicines from the caravan of Alessio rider Ivan Gotti's grandparents.

But according to Alessio team manager Bruno Cenghialta, the medicines "were intended for personal use against an allergy".

Speaking to an Italian news agency, Cenghialta said: "Gotti is tranquil because he had reported the prescriptions to the International Cycling Union and to the Italian Federation."

Alessio sources believe the medicines were confiscated after last Friday's stage.

Gotti, a two-time Giro champion in 1997 and 1999, started Sunday's time test in 15th stage - an individual time test - in sixth place, over two minutes behind overall race leader Gilberto Simoni.

The drugs saga which has plagued cycling has so far evaded the current Giro race.

Cyclists have undertaken random blood tests twice during the race and all have been negative.
