The New Jersey Devils booked a return trip to the Stanley Cup finals with a 4-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Jason Arnott scored twice, the second with an assist from Patrik Elias, who extended his franchise record post-season scoring streak to 10 games.

The Devils now go on to meet Colorado Avalanche, starting in Denver on Saturday.

With the exception of six-plus minutes in the second period of Game Two, when Pittsburgh scored three times to secure their lone win, the Devils totally dominated the series.

"When you look at how few goals they got in this whole series, I think it's a testament to how we played defensively and the goaltending we got," enthused New Jersey coach Larry Robinson.

Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur
Brodeur: Gunning for his third Stanley Cup

Martin Brodeur was thwarted in his bid to become the first NHL goaltender in 56 years to record three straight shutouts, after Alexei Morozov and Martin Straka scored for the Penguins.

But he was delighted to be getting a shot at his third Stanley Cup in seven years.

"It's been a different ride for me compared to other years, not too many shots," he said.

"I'm really excited that my team again gives me an opportunity to be in the Stanley Cup finals."

Bobby Holik, who was responsible for neutralising Mario Lemieux for much of the series, added insult to injury by scoring the winning goal in the second period.

And John Madden added an insurance goal in the third for New Jersey.
