National League Barry Bonds blasted his eighth homer in five games - a National League record - but was unable to prevent his San Francisco Giants falling 4-2 to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. The contest turned instead on Curt Schilling, who pitched all nine innings to become the league's first seven-game winning pitcher this season. It is becoming a familiar story for Bonds, who for the fourth time in five games saw his home run wasted in defeat. He drove Schilling over the centre field wall in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1, eclipsing the NL mark of seven homers held by Jim Bottomley, Johnny Bench and Mike Schmidt. But Schilling regained his composure and allowed just six hits in his second consecutive complete game against San Francisco. A crowd of 38,196 watched the 500th game at Coors Field, Denver, and four RBIs from Todd Walker propelled the Colorado Rockies past the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-3. Walker had a two-run double to open the scoring in the first innings and another in the eighth to help lift Colorado out of its recent slump. In Miami, Andruw Jones homered twice and knocked in four runs to back a strong effort by pitcher Tom Glavine as the Atlanta Braves beat the Florida Marlins 5-3. Jones opened the scoring with a solo homer in the first innings, delivered an RBI single in the third and added a two-run shot in the sixth, accounting for the Braves' first four runs. Glavine allowed one run and five hits over seven innings, walking none and striking out seven. Ryan Klesko, meanwhile, hit a pair of three-run homers as the San Diego Padres held on for a 7-6 triumph at the Houston Astros. In Montreal, Japanese rookie Tsuyoshi Shinjo delivered the decisive hit as the New York Mets notched a 6-3 victory over the Expos. Shinjo smacked a bases-clearing double in the sixth inning, snapping a 2-2 tie. American League The Toronto Blue Jays ended a seven-game home losing streak as they beat the Chicago White Sox 10-3. Tony Batista, Brad Fullmer and Jose Cruz Jr combined for seven RBIs as the Blue Jays handed the White Sox their seventh straight loss.
