Arise, Sir Steven Redgrave
![]() Redgrave and the boys now win recognition from the Queen
Olympian Sir Steven Redgrave picks up his knighthood from the Queen on Tuesday.
He wil be joined at the Buckingham Palace investiture by fellow oarsmen Matthew Pinsent, James Cracknell and Timothy Foster - who made up the victorious coxless four in Sydney. Sir Steven, 39, from Marlow Bottom, Buckinghamshire, made history at the 2000 Sydney Olympics when he won his fifth gold medal 16 years after the first. He also tasted victory at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, Seoul in 1988, Barcelona in 1992 and Atlanta in 1996. Pinsent, who is 30, from Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire is getting his CBE, while Cracknell, 28, hailing from the same town, and Foster, 30, from Bedford, collect MBEs. Former Olympic silver-medallist runner Adrian Metcalfe, 59, who is now an athletics official and broadcasting executive, is to be made an OBE for services to sport.
