San Antonio romped past the Los Angeles Clippers 99-81 to take sole possession of first place in the Midwest Division.

Tim Duncan hit 28 points and 11 rebounds, while David Robinson had 14 and 12 as the Spurs beat LA for the 13th straight time to break their tie with Utah.

Duncan said. "We started out strong from the opening tip and kept it going for the whole game."

The Spurs (44-19) have won seven straight, including a just completed 4-0 road trip, and inched into the lead for the top spot in the Western Conference.

Kevin Garnett scored 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as the Timberwolves snapped a two-game slide by beating Miami 94-77.

The win gave Minnesota revenge for a 86-79 loss at the Heat onon Friday.

"They were fresh in our mind," said Garnett.

Wally Szczerbiak agreed. "Payback feels good," he added.

Miami were without the injured Eddie Jones as well as Anthony Mason and Duane Causewell, disciplined by coach Pat Riley for being late to a team meeting.

Nuggets win away

Denver snapped a nine-game road losing streak with an 84-79 win over the Golden State Warriors.

Nick Van Exel, back after missing two games with a bruised knee, grabbed 17 points, putting the Nuggets ahead for good with a three-pointer from the corner with 2:26 to play.

Jamal Mashburn had 28 points, eight rebounds and a career-high 14 assists as Charlotte beat the Chicago Bulls 102-94.

The win moved the Hornets within one-half game of the Knicks for fourth place in the Eastern Conference play-off race.

Elden Campbell scored a season-high 26 points and added nine boards and five blocked shots for Charlotte (37-27).

Brad Miller had 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Bulls, who lost their 19th consecutive road game.
