Senators sizzle in Florida
Marian Hossa, Ottawa Senators
Hossa punished Ward's mistake to seal the win
Florida 4-5 Ottawa (OT)

Marian Hossa scored on a breakaway with 2:06 left in overtime as the Senators came back from three goals down.

Hossa dummied Trevor Kidd out of position and flipped the puck over the fallen goaltender for his fifth goal in three games against the Panthers this season.

The stirring victory allowed the Northeast Division-leading Senators to match a franchise record with their fifth straight win.

Ottawa could have won in regulation when Alexei Yashin scored his 200th NHL goal and 22nd of the season to give them a 4-3 lead with 8:52 to go in the third.

But Florida defenceman Dan Boyle scored his first goal of the season on the powerplay to tie it with 7:21 left.

Detroit 3-2 Anaheim

Paul Kariya, Anaheim Mighty Ducks
Kariya couldn't prevent another Ducks' loss

Not even the return of Paul Kariya could reverse the fortunes of the Mighty Ducks at the Joe Louis Arena.

Kariya was back in the line-up after missing 15 games with a cracked bone in his foot, but Anaheim squandered an early two-goal lead over the Red Wings for their fourth straight loss.

Goals by Tony Hrkac and Pascal Trepanier in 54 seconds of the opening period put the Ducks 2-0 in front but Sergei Fedorov secured victory for Detroit with his 23rd goal of the season.

Buffalo 1-2 Boston

Mikko Eloranta scored his second of the game with 13:25 remaining as the Bruins moved back over .500 at the expense of the punchless Sabres.

"I was pretty lucky today," Eloranta said. "I saw the puck all the time, but I think all the Buffalo defense didn't see it."

Edmonton 1-1 Phoenix (OT)

Mike Grier, Edmonton Oilers
Grier's goal earned a tie for the Oilers

The Oilers had to settle for a tie as Sean Burke stopped 26 shots for the Coyotes.

Phoenix lost captain and top scorer Keith Tkachuk late in the second period with concussion.

He hit his head on the ice in the first period following a check by Rem Murray.

NY Rangers 2-3 NY Islanders

Brad Isbister hit two goals in the third-period and added an assist as the Islanders defeated their arch rivals and ended an eight-game road winless streak.

Isbister broke a 1-1 tie on the powerplay with 12:10 remaining, then got the eventual game-winner with 2:51 left.

Denver 5-2 Chicago

Peter Forsberg had two goals and an assist in the opening 10 minutes as the Avalanche raced to a 3-0 lead over the Blackhawks.

Patrick Roy made 22 saves as Colorado, with a league-leading 75 points, improved to 7-0-1-0 since a 4-3 overtime loss at Detroit on 7 January.
