Wells and Rivers in the dock
![]() The NBA prescribed a $7,500 fine for Doc Rivers
Portland Trail Blazers guard Bonzi Wells and Orlando Magic coach Doc Rivers have been fined by the NBA after confrontations with match officials.
Wells was suspended for one game without pay and fined $10,000 for intentionally striking and verbally abusing an official during Tuesday's 105-93 home loss to the Seattle SuperSonics. The incident occured with 4:38 to play after Mike Dunleavy and Wells were ejected. Wells whipped his headband across the court at referee Tim Donaghy and knocked over a water cooler before leaving.
Wells was to serve his suspension on Thursday, when the Blazers hosted the Dallas Mavericks. Rivers took exception to the officiating down the stretch in Wednesday's tough 88-86 loss to Utah. He was fined $7,500 for confronting and verbally abusing an official while failing to leave the court in a timely manner.
