Edinburgh has been chosen as the headquarters for bowls' governing body.

The new World Bowls headquarters will be located within sportscotland's building at Caledonia House, South Gyle.

Scotland's position as a top bowling nation was confirmed at the weekend, when world No.1 David Gourlay won the BUPA Care Homes Open in Sheffield.

The latest recognition has been welcomed by sportscotland, the agency set up to improve the nation's standing in world sport.

Bowling is one of Scotland's most consistently successful sports.
Ian Robson
Chief executive Ian Robson said: "This announcement is a recognition that Scotland's sporting infrastructure is definitely on the ascendancy and provides an environment where major sporting bodies can flourish.

"Bowling is one of Scotland's most consistently successful sports, with our men and women picking up gold medals at virtually every World Championships and Commonwealth Games in recent years.

"Having the world governing body for the sport on our doorstep can only benefit this development and further establish Scotland's international reputation as a nation committed to improving the development of sport."
