Olympic Football Stadia
The men's and women's football competitions will be hosted in five Olympic cities: Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Heraklio, Volos.

Karaiskaki Stadium, Athens
Home to Olympiakos, the second largest stadium in Athens was used as the velodrome for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 before being renovated in the 1960s.

After further improvements it will hold 33,000 spectators and host preliminaries, quarter-finals and a semi-final, as well as the women's gold medal match.

Olympic Stadium, Athens
The main stadium will host the men's gold medal match only. It has a capacity of 55,000 and is planned to have a glass and steel roof, although construction has been subject to severe delays.

Kaftantzoglio Stadium, Thessaloniki
Close to the centre of Greece's second largest city, Thessaloniki, the stadium will be upgraded to house 25,000 seats for several football preliminaries and the semi-finals.

Pampeloponnisiako Stadium, Patras
Situated in Patras, a city in the north of Peloponissos, the stadium will hold 23,588 spectators. The existing stadium has only been used for regional and national football games and has needed considerable renovation in terms of infrastructure.

Pankritio Stadium, Heraklio
Heraklion on the island of Crete has a first division football club but the 12 Olympic matches will be hosted at the newly-built 27,000-capacity Pankritio Stadium. Construction began more than 14 years ago but the arrival of the Games has provided the spur to complete the project.

Panthessaliko Stadium, Volos
The eastern part of Greece will see football preliminaries in a renovated stadium with a new capacity of 21,000.
