Henman could do with a clean service game to re-establish his confidence. He gets to 40-0 but is pegged back to 40-30 before coming up with a nifty backhand volley off his feet to clinch the game.

Novak lashes down a fierce serve to give himself two set points. A limp forehand into the net sees the first go begging but a whipped forehand secures the first set for the Czech player.

Once again, the momentum of the match takes a violent swing. Novak unleashes a forehand passing winner on the run and Henman then double-faults to go 15-40 down. The Briton saves the first but then double-faults again to hand his opponent the break.

Suddenly Novak's level drops and a lunge volley followed by a winning service return from Henman gives him two break points and gets the Briton pumping his fist. Novak double-faults and suddenly Henman is back in the set.
Henman 2-4 Novak
Novak lets a couple of chances slip and Henman gets to 40-15. But his game is still not fluent and yet again he finds himself break point down. But the British number one serves his first ace of the match to extricate himself from danger and finally manages to hold his serve.

Some agile net-play from Novak brings the sparse crowd to life. The Czech then comes up with a superb crosscourt backhand winner to hold comfortably.

Henman appears to be struggling to find his rhythm in the blustery conditions and a floated backhand lands wide, giving Novak two more break points. The Briton then dollops another backhand wide - this time on the other side - to concede his serve again.
