GB win hockey opener
Great Britain's Barry Middleton
Barry Middleton celebrates scoring Great Britain's opener
Two quick second-half goals helped Britain's men's hockey team see off Egypt 3-1 in their Olympic opener.

Barry Middleton gave Great Britain a perfect start with a neat goal after 15 minutes, thanks to some good work by Jimmy Wallis.

Egypt responded just after the break through Sameh Mohammed and they started to get more into the game.

But some neat work by Guy Fordham after 53 minutes and a strike by Ben Hawes six minutes later made the result safe.

Coach Jason Lee was satisfied to begin the tournament with a win.

"We had some ups and downs but it is usually a bit nerve-wracking in the opening game of the tournament," he said.

"To be honest, before the match I would have settled for 1-0 and we have done better than that.

"When we had a dodgy spell the guys started to go back to what I would call the bad old habits but it lasted only a short spell and they got back to playing together as a team," he said.
