Filip Meirhaeghe has withdrawn from the Olympics
Belgian mountain biking world champion Filip Meirhaeghe has pulled out of the Olympics after admitting testing positive for a banned substance.

The 33-year-old said he was quitting the sport after results showed he had taken the blood-boosting substance EPO.

The Sydney Games silver medallist revealed he had tested positive two days before a cross country World Cup race which he won on 27 June in Quebec.

Meirhaeghe is currently second in the cross country world rankings.
