An Uzbekistan women's shot putter has failed a drugs test and been kicked out of the Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee announced on Friday.
Olga Shchukina tested positive for the banned anabolic agent Clenbuterol on 14 August, the IOC said.
The 27-year-old finished last in her event on Wednesday after managing a throw of just 14.44m in qualifying.
Shchukina blamed the test result on a cough mixture she had taken, but the explanation was rejected by officials.
The IOC's executive board said after a disciplinary commission hearing that
the athlete was responsible for any illegal product in her system.
The women's shot put was won by Irina Korzhanenko, of Russia, with a thow of 21.06m.
