Hungary's Adrian Annus has won the men's Olympic hammer competition by just 28cm.
Annus' third-round effort of 83.19m proved enough despite a superb final round throw of 82.91m from Japan's Koji Murofushi, who took silver.
World champion Ivan Tikhon, from Belarus, qualified with 80.78m but only managed a throw of 79.81m as he took the bronze medal.
Annus won the European Championships and World Cup double in 2002.
