Korir out of marathon

Korir finished second in this year's London Marathon
Kenyan Sammy Korir, the second fastest marathon runner ever, is out of the Olympics with a leg injury.

With Ethiopia's reigning champion Gezahegne Abera pulling out earlier this week, the men's race is now missing two medal favourites.

Korir, who arrived in Kenya late on Wednesday after undergoing treatment in Italy, said he would be out of action for about six weeks.

"I'm disappointed," admitted Korir, who finished second in London this year.

Korir finished just one second behind Paul Tergat when his fellow Kenyan set the current world record of two hours four minutes 55 seconds in Berlin last year.

Abera, who became the first man to win both Olympic and World marathon titles, has struggled with nagging injuries since last season.
