IOC upbeat about stadium
Construction continuing at Athens
The Athens project has been beset by problems
International Olympic Committee (IOC) inspectors are now hopeful the main stadium in Athens will be ready for the opening ceremony for the Games.

The IOC had been worried that the roof would not be in place by the time the Olympics begin on 13 August.

"There is still enough time to ensure the core needs of the Games are properly serviced," said Denis Oswald, the IOC's chief inspector.

"I am very much impressed with the work carried out in the last three weeks."

But he added: "There's no denying that there remains much work to do before the opening ceremony."
