Former US President George Bush and his wife Barbara will visit the 2004 Athens Olympics, according to organisers.
"The Olympics belong in Greece, and Greece will do well by the Olympics,"Bush told Games chief Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki in a letter.
"I am 100% confident that your great country, you yourself, and your committee are doing an outstanding job.
"Barbara and I are anxiously awaiting the Olympic Games. I'm absolutely thrilled that we will be there."
Greek preparation has faced international media criticism for delays and alleged lapses in security planning.
On Monday, it was reported that the International Olympic Committee [IOC] is seeking a £100m insurance policy in case the Athens Games hit major problems.
The Olympics take place in the Greek capital from 13-29 August.
