US steps up athlete safety

Athletes from the United States will get extra protection at this year's Olympic Games in Greece.

There will also be increased security on their flights to Athens, with the possibility of armed air marshals sitting alongside competitors.

"We're working very closely with the airlines and federal authorities," US Olympic security chief Larry Buendorf told The Washington Post newspaper.

US officials said they had given no consideration to withdrawing the team.
