Hyman breaks O'Neill's hold
Misty Hyman
Misty Hyman celebrates her victory with team-mate Kaitlin Sandeno
American Misty Hyman defeated favourite Susie O'Neill for the 200m butterfly gold and breaks the Olympic record.

She clocked a time of two minutes 05.88 seconds leaving the O'Neill in her wake with Australian, Petria Thomas, taking the bronze.

O'Neill, who finally captured the 200 butterfly world mark which had been set by American Mary T. Meagher in 1981, had not been beaten at a major championships since she took the bronze medal behind two Chinese at the 1994 World Championships.

"I swam as well as I could," said O'Neill.

"Obviously, I'm disappointed. Unfortunately, I know my best time would've done it."
