Flying Fioravanti bags second gold
![]() Domenico Fioravanti celebrates his victory with bronze medallist and team-mate Davide Rummolo
Domenico Fioravanti emerged as a major force on the international swimming stage after effortlessly winning his second gold of the Games.
The 23-year-old from Trecate had already given Italy its first ever swimming gold when he took many by surprise and won the 100m breaststroke last Sunday. He showed it was no fluke by following it with an equally impressive perfomance in the 200m final. Fioravanti destroyed the field to finish first in 2:10:87, more than two seconds ahead of his nearest rival. Terence Parkin of South Africa won the silver in 2:12:50 while Davide Rummolo gave Italy further reason to celebrate by claiming the bronze in 2:12:73.
